Crust Confidence

Art credit here.
Reading the typical Food & Life section in the Austin American Statesman, like I do every Wednesday, I started reading an article about pie crust.  The article was "Pie crust that works, and sweets to fill it" by Ruth Fantasia. I enjoyed it to say the least, and it made me want to put on an apron and start cooking! Everyone who has ever attempted at making a pie crust knows how hard it is to get it just right. This article shows, step by step, the right way to make a pie crust. Another thing people realize is the difference in crusts. Some people like it flaky, while others want it tender. They used science to figure out the best possible way to get exactly what you want, starting from scratch. The article also shows different kinds of pie, from chocolate and pumpkin, to pumpkin pie using Greek-style yogurt and coconut nectar. The recipes are changed so they use healthier alternatives like stevia rather than sugar. For more information read the first page of Food & Life, section D, or click here.

  1. Good job. Pie crusts are pretty frustrating so this is really helpful. Thanks!
